5 tiers of homeschoolers?

Ok So I just read My 32 Cent's The 5 Tiers of Homeschoolers .  (I would add one for atheist homeschoolers. I've met ones who were very adamant about not using things that were "religious").  Here is Caleb doing his schoolwork in our new dining room :-)

 


Here are the tiers they suggest:

TIER 1 – THE ROD AND STAFF HOMESCHOOLERS
The Rod and Staff homeschoolers (named after a well-known publisher from this tier) include the Amish and Mennonites and a few others who adhere to similar ideologies. They are the most conservative of all the groups and place a strong focus on holy living.

TIER 2 – SKIRTWEARER HOMESCHOOLERS
Skirtwearers are the second tier and are also very conservative, yet not as strict in certain areas as the Rod and Staff homeschoolers.  

TIER 4 –THE TRENDY HOMESCHOOLERS
The Trendy homeschooler is much more mainstream than Tiers 1, 2, and 3 homeschoolers and even though they have their quirks, generally fit in well in secular society.

TIER 5 – LIBERAL MINDED HOMESCHOOLER
Tier 5 homeschoolers are more liberal in their thinking, pushing the limits of their Christian experience. Some fully adhere to Biblical teaching, some do not. Unbiblical lifestyles such as homosexuality can be accepted and even defended by tier 5, sometimes resulting in homeschoolers in the other tiers questioning the salvation of their Tier 5 brothers and sisters in Christ.

TIER 3 – THE IN-BETWEEN HOMESCHOOLER
 The In-Between homeschoolers are harder to categorize since in some areas they are 2’s and some 4’s. Very rarely will they embrace a view from Tier 1, and never any belief from Tier 5. They are ultra-conservative in some things, but mainstream in others. For example, a Tier 3 homeschooler may not believe in watching any movies that aren’t rated G or Christian, but they are fine with females wearing pants. They also might be fully committed to chaperoned courtship but love to listen to Randy Houser croon “Like a Cowboy.” This is why they have earned their own category and are considered to be the In-Between homeschoolers.


Ok so I guess we're Tier 3 but mostly 2 with a few things from 4 thrown in :-)     Funny thing is, is that we use Rod and Staff books.  They are wonderful!! Very affordable and challenging.  We also love that they publish stuff in German as Bill is teaching it to Caleb.

Homeschool Group

A couple weeks ago we had a great day at the colonial Thanksgiving event that our local homeschool group put on.  Many dressed up. We had great food and met new friends.

Very Busy Week!

This past week was a crazy one :-) J had his speech therapist and his occupational therapist come, one on Mon and one on Wed. On Monday we spent time with cousins playing outside and doing homework. On Tuesday we went to the library and learned about dinosaurs. After that we grabbed some lunch and went to the park to play with friends. Later in the week we visited with Daddy's best friend who came up from Fla with his dad. We had lunch with them on Thurs and dinner on Friday. On the way back Friday we had some lovely spit up which made the car smell oh so good! Saturday we spent the day learning about Scotland at the taste of Scotland festival. That evening we had dinner with grandparents who came to visit.

Ever read something in the bible and think I've never read this before even though  you know you have many times? I felt that way today when reading to Caleb tonight out of 2nd Chronicles. 16:9 says: For the eyes of the Lord range throughout the earth to strengthen those whose hearts are fully committed to him. Isn't that wonderful!?!!?

Our Week

We’ve spent most of our afternoons lately outside. Since we don’t take the whole summer off, we still have work to do but are definitely enjoying the beautiful weather!!  On Monday and Tuesday mornings we went to the library where we learned about gardening and planted flowers and tomatoes. After library on Tuesday we spend the afternoon with friends at the park. (Wish I had a picture)

Caleb went to VBS with a friend this week. He also learned about 3D shapes, multiplication with 2, measurements and read me lots of books including on on dinosaurs and his new fave My No No No Day. Our math comes from Christian Homeschool Hub.  It is very cool and they are always adding new resources.

Anyone know what this flying thing is? We’ve seen many creatures this week including butterflies, snails and a tiny frog.
